LED Drivers & Power Supplies

An LED driver (also called an LED power supply or transformer) converts mains power to the low voltage your LED strip needs. The right driver keeps the light stable, flicker-free and long-lasting. We stock over 190 models from trusted brands such as Mean Well and Helvar.

How to size a driver

Multiply the strip's power (W/m) by its length and add a 20% reserve. Example: 5 m × 10 W/m = 50 W, so choose a 60 W driver. Make sure the voltage matches the strip: 12V, 24V or 48V.

Dimmable drivers

  • TRIAC: works with standard wall dimmers.
  • PUSH DIM: dims with an ordinary push button.
  • DALI and 1–10V: for building automation and professional projects.
  • Zigbee: for smart home control.

Indoor or outdoor

Choose IP20 for dry, enclosed spaces and IP67 for outdoors, bathrooms and other damp locations.

Frequently asked questions

Is an LED driver the same as a transformer?

In everyday language yes. Technically, LED strips need a constant voltage driver.

Usein kysytyt kysymykset

Millainen muuntaja LED-nauhalle tarvitaan?

Muuntajan jännite on sama kuin LED-nauhan, eli 12 V nauhalle 12 V muuntaja ja 24 V nauhalle 24 V muuntaja. Teho valitaan 20–30 % nauhan kokonaistehoa suuremmaksi.

Miten lasken muuntajan tehon?

Kerro nauhan teho metreillä: esimerkiksi 5 m × 10 W/m = 50 W. Sopiva muuntaja on silloin 60–65 W.

Kumpi on parempi, 12 V vai 24 V?

24 V sopii pidempiin vetoihin, koska jännitehäviö on pienempi. 12 V on yleinen lyhyissä kalustevaloissa ja vanhoissa järjestelmissä.

Voiko LED-muuntajaa himmentää?

Kyllä, kun valitset himmennettävän mallin: TRIAC tavallisille seinähimmentimille, DALI ja 1–10 V ohjausjärjestelmiin, Push Dim painonapille. RF-himmentimen kanssa riittää tavallinen muuntaja.

Tarvitaanko ulos tai kylpyhuoneeseen erityinen muuntaja?

Kosteisiin ja ulkotiloihin valitaan IP-suojattu muuntaja, ulkokäyttöön IP67.

Mikä ero on vakiovirta- ja vakiojännitemuuntajalla?

Vakiojännitemuuntaja (12/24 V) on LED-nauhoille. Vakiovirtamuuntaja on alasvaloille ja spoteille, joiden tuotetiedoissa sitä vaaditaan.

Choosing an LED power supply – voltage, power and dimming

Choosing the right product starts with the application, the dimensions and technical compatibility. This guide helps you compare the options before ordering.

Constant voltage or constant current?

LED strips often use a constant voltage power supply, for example 12 V or 24 V. Many LED downlights and modules, on the other hand, require a specific constant current, such as the milliamp value stated by the manufacturer. These types of power supply cannot be used interchangeably. Check the technical requirements of the luminaire or strip before ordering.

12 V, 24 V and 48 V

The output voltage of the power supply must match the rated voltage of the LED load. In a 24 V system the current is lower than in a 12 V system at the same power, which can make voltage drop easier to manage. 48 V options are used for certain longer runs. Never connect a 12 V strip directly to a 24 V power supply.

How much power is needed?

Calculate the total power of an LED strip by multiplying the strip's W/m value by the length used. For example, 10 metres of 10 W/m strip means a nominal load of 100 W. Choose a power supply whose continuous power, together with the safety margin required by the manufacturer, is sufficient for the load. Also take into account any power derating caused by the ambient temperature.

Dimmable power supplies

TRIAC, DALI, PUSH DIM and 0–10 V are different control methods. A dimmable power supply is chosen according to the control system in use and the LED load. Not all DALI power supplies support all DALI functions, and an ordinary ON/OFF power supply does not become dimmable with a separate mains dimmer without compatibility.

IP rating, installation and connections

The power supply's IP rating, operating temperature, cooling and installation method are chosen according to the environment. In damp spaces and outdoors, the protection of the connections must also be considered. Check the input voltage, connector type, physical dimensions and any enclosure required. Fixed mains electrical connections must be made by a qualified electrician.

Frequently asked questions

Which LED power supply is suitable for a 24 V strip?

A 24 V constant voltage power supply whose continuous power and other specifications match the load of the strip.

Can an overpowered power supply be used?

A sufficient power reserve is a good thing, but also check the power supply manufacturer's load and operating instructions.

What is the difference between a CV and a CC power supply?

CV keeps the voltage constant, while CC regulates the current to match the luminaire's requirement.

Can an LED power supply be dimmed?

Only if the selected power supply, or the control system connected to it, supports the desired dimming method.
